St. Cyril of Jerusalem is a Catholic elementary school serving students from Pre-K through 8th grade and offering after school daycare, extracurricular activities and a sports program. Fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and College the St. Cyril’s mission statement promises to work toward educating students to be faith-filled individuals academically prepared to be confident and effective members of the community upon graduation.
Extracurricular activities that support this mission statement include Science Club, Chess Club, Spanish Club, Newspaper, Yearbook, Irish step dancing classes, an after school art program and the Angel on My Shoulder Charity Club, which sponsors fund-raisers for local Catholic charity groups such as Holy Family Services. Twice a year the club members travel to Skid Row with parents and faculty members to distribute blankets and food to the needy. Students participate in St. Cyril of Jerusalem Parish by singing in the church choir in grades 3 through 5, joining the Vocal Ensemble in the later grades and acting as altar servers. Sports at St. Cyril include volleyball, basketball and swimming for boys and girls as well as girls softball and boys flag football.
Parents are encouraged to play an active role in church and school activities by joining the Parent Volunteer Committee (PVC) as well by serving forty hours of volunteer work each school year, but arrangements can be made for the work to be completed at home on their own time. Family events such as an Italian dinner, school spring festival and parents’ talent show are held all year long to allow the school community to come together socially.
Many students are the children of former alumni and most teachers have been with the school for their entire careers. For over 50 proud years St. Cyril of Jerusalem has been educating the students of the San Fernando Valley. They’d be pleased to have you join this community of eager learners and educators.
